Day 89
Roxanne and I picked up Tyler today (he’s staying with his grandmother, Shirley, this week) and drove down to Cabela’s in Wheeling, WV. It is not as big as the main store in Nebraska but has the trademark mountain with mounted animals in the center back of the store. Tyler really liked the mounts and variety of animals Cabela’s always presents in their stores. The store also had a huge white-tailed deer room, an aquarium, an African animal display, a high-end gunroom and kid’s shooting gallery besides all the various outdoors gear they sell. We were getting ready to leave and a huge storm cell passed over us. The thunder and lightning was right overhead and dumping torrents of rain and it even knocked out the electricity in the area, including the store for a while. Cabela’s has a back up generator but it still looked like night lighting until the main electrical current was restored. It rained off and on all the way back to Wellsville.
After we returned, Tony, Joan, Roxanne and I went back over to the West Virginia side to have dinner at the Mountaineer Race Track and Casino. We didn’t gamble tonight but did get to see some nice restored antique vehicles the hotel displays in the lobby. We also passed the Homer Laughlin Ceramic Plant, where they make the Fiesta brand dinnerware and have a sales outlet. They weren’t open when we went by so we may visit the plant next week.
