Kingman Equipment Service installed our new generator (it took about three hours to get it back in and hooked up). They only charged us for 4 hours work for two guys, $35 per hour, total $140.00. Chris, the owner is going to repair our old generator then put it on eBay for us so we can recoup the labor and off set the cost of the new generator. I bought them lunch and we left for Long Beach at 1500 (we decided to drive to Long Beach instead of me flying there). We also stopped to say goodbye to cousin Tonna and Chip again before we left Kingman.
We also found out (this morning from the couple who restored the 1960's trailer - their clock is in the picture above) there will be a Route 66 rally this weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) with period cars, trailers, and enthusiasts. They are planning a road rally from Seligman along the still existing old Route 66 to Kingman, with a continuation onto Oatman for those interested in driving more of the old "Mother Road". Kingman will close some of their downtown streets for a parade on Saturday and for a general street party/picnic type of gathering as well. Too bad we need to continue on our trek. (The weekend before was the big Harley bike rally in Laughlin, NV, with a run to Kingman and back - and there were what seemed like a million bikes all over when we first came to Kingman to visit with cousin Tonna and Chip.)
On the way to Pomona, CA, where we stayed the night, we stopped for dinner at Peggy Sue's Diner that Uncle Tim had mentioned going to. One of the owners is a retired actress and the diner and gift shop is decorated with movie pictures and memorabilia. Even today, quite a few stars to eat here on the way to Las Vegas or back to LA. The KOA we are staying at is only 34 miles from the safe company we will be visiting tomorrow and is very pretty. It is also next to the Pomona Fair Grounds where they have the big RV show each spring and has been highlighted on the RVing shows we've watched in Alaska (this year's was only a couple weeks prior to our visit).
I talked to Jenny today, too. She and April were in Seattle waiting to catch a connecting flight to Oakland, CA for the night (April has a doctor's appointment tomorrow). I also gave Tyler a call to see how he was doing.
